Walter GreeneWalter Greene
Walter Ben Greene, of Astoria died Feb. 19, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Johnson City, Tenn., a son of Robert Author and Lydia Mae Johnson Greene. He married Barbara Joan Lucas on Sept. 9, 1994, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his son, Anthony Greene of Peoria; stepchildren, Laura (and Stephen) Thomas of Astoria, Dierdre Harris of Dunfermline, Nancy Harris of Carbondale, Jeffery (and Sharon) Rigg of Mount Sterling and Theodore (and Lois) Rigg of Little River, Texas; one brother, Carl Jackson (and Elaine) Greene of Leesburg, Ala.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Price Greene; and one brother, Frank Greene.
He served his country in the United States Navy.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Havana, Lions Club and Moose Club, and was employed as a salesman at Sears.
Cremation will be accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bader Christian Church, RR 1, Browning, with Brandon Thomas officiating. Butler Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
