Jeffrey GainJeffrey W. Gain, 82, of Hardin died May 26, 2022, at St Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

He was born Aug. 21, 1939, in Rushville, a son of Leslie W. Gain and Vergil R. Everman Gain. He married Judith Shaw of Appleton, Wis., and later married Antoinette Mann of St. Louis, Mo. Both survive.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Gain (and Gregory Swanson) of Appleton, Wis., and Gretchen Gain (and Kim Hamalainen) of Chicago; one son, Jeffrey W. Gain II of St. Louis; one brother, Joel L. Gain; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen E. Gain.

He grew up in Rushville and worked at the family business Gain Greenhouse with his dad and uncle. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1962.

He later served as county manager for several county Farm Bureaus, later as director of marketing for the Illinois Farm Bureau. He next became executive director of the American Soybean Association, then chief executive officer of National Corn Growers Association before retiring to his farm and some consulting works in Calhoun County. He also was active with the McCully Heritage Project, serving on the board for many years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Astoria Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Illinois Riverdock Restaurant in Hardin from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
