Edith GoldsboroughEdith Marie Goldsborough, 105, of Rushville died at 6:34 p.m. Oct. 19, 2021, at her daughter’s home.

She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Summerville, Mo., the daughter of James and Orpha Abbot Crum. She married Melvin Lowell Goldsborough on Dec. 6, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2014.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Lou Goldsborough; and four brothers, Howard, Art, Leroy and Carl Crum.

Surviving are one son, Don (and Sharon) Goldsborough of Rushville; one daughter, Sharon Peacock of Rushville; two grandchildren, Jeff (and Libby) Goldsborough and Tanya (and Brian) Tomlinson; and four great-grandchildren.

From childhood she desired to be a teacher. She attended various country schools and graduated from Coffeen High School in 1935, then attended Greenville College for two years. After that she took a job as a nursemaid. She then returned home to attend Western Illinois University. She began teaching in 1939 in Schuyler County country schools. In 1946 she took time off from teaching. She resumed teaching in 1959 until retiring in 1979 at Webster School. She taught Sunday school.

She was the bird coordinator for the Schuyler Audubon Society.

Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Jeremy Norton and Pastor David Ball officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery southeast of Rushville.
