Gene GraftonGene L. Grafton, 81, of rural Rushville died at 2:34 p.m. March 5, 2021, at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

He was born Dec. 2, 1939, in Mount Sterling, a son of W. Franklin and Bonnie Eskew Grafton. He married Judith L. Etter on Nov. 4, 1962, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Michael S. (and Rhonda) Grafton of Good Hope; two daughters, Cynthia L. (and Steve) Dotzert of Virginia and Marcie J. (and Dan) Mitchell of Nixa, Mo.; one brother, Kevin A. (and Tamra) Grafton of Rushville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graduate of the Rushville High School Class of 1958, he served in the Army National Guard for six years. He was a lifelong Littleton Township farmer and was the Littleton Township supervisor for 18 years.

He was a member of Littleton United Methodist Church and was first a member of the Littleton Masonic Lodge before transferring his membership to the Rushville Lodge #9 A.F. and A.M. He also was a 4-H leader for the Clover Leaf Club for 25 years. He was a life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery, north of Rushville with military rites by the U.S. Army Burial Detail and the Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Following the visitation, masonic rites will be performed.

Memorials may be made to the MICU Department of Cox South Hospital in appreciation of the wonderful care they provided for Gene.
