JOYCE (SETTLES) GOSSAGE

Joyce Gossage

Joyce Gossage, 74, of Rushville died at 12:32 a.m. March 6, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born May 28, 1942, in Ray, a daughter of Wayne and Yvonne Cook Settles. She married Jack Gossage on Sept. 7, 1963, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1992.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Terry Gossage; and one brother, George Settles.

Surviving are two sons, Kevin (and Dawn) Gossage of Frederick and Sam (and Luan) Gossage of Rushville; four sisters, Sharon Hale of Bluffs, Waynette (and Red) Stults of Palmyra, Donna Jeanne (and Herb) Stevenson of Camden and Carol Settles of Rushville; one brother, James (and Lisa) Settles of Bluffs; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a member of the 1960 graduating class of Rushville High School. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Snyder’s Vaughn Haven Nursing Home in Rushville and Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown. She later was a waitress at various restaurants and cooked at Mary’s Dari Maid and Brown’s Restaurant, both in Rushville. She also was the driver of the transport van at the Schuyler County Senior Center.

She was a den mother with the Boy Scouts, when her boys were young.

Services were held Friday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Brother Matt Haberman officiating. Burial followed in the Messerer Cemetery, near Frederick.
