GEORGE L. GUNTER

George Gunter

George L. Gunter, 72, of Mountain Home, Ark., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002.

He was born July 28, 1930, in Chicago, a son of Fred E. and Coila Lawson Gunter. He married Marjorie A. Dyke on June 21, 1952, at Hammond, Ind. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Michael (and Helen) of Mountain Home; two daughters, Sandra (and Michael) McPhillips of Schererville, Ind., and Jeri (and Allen) Row of Branson, Mo.; one brother, Carl of Corona, Calif.; one sister, Jane Clark of South Bend, Ind.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He was a graduate of Astoria High School where he lettered in basketball.

He was a locomotive fireman on the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Co., retiring after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Mountain Home Elks Lodge #1714 where he was Elk of the Year in 1984, Mountain Home Moose Lodge #1953, the United Transportation Union where he served as secretary on both local and state levels, Lake Norfork Boat Club and U.S. Steel Retirees Club.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Services were held Monday at First Presbyterian Church. Entombment was at Baxter Memorial Gardens' Mausoleum of Faith. Roller Funeral Home in Mountain Home was in charge of arrangements.
