Earl J. Gorsuch, 78, of Ipava died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at Mason District Hospital Emergency Room in Havana.

He was born July 9, 1923, in Fulton County, a son of Earl and Amy E. Hendee Gorsuch. He married Ollidean Harmon on May 22, 1954, in Havana. She died Dec. 15, 1992.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and one half-sister.

Surviving are two sons, Lyle of Havana and Jim (and Robin) of Decatur; three daughters, Barbara (and Lyle) Black of Springfield, Teresa (and Gerry) Parker of Bath and Lisa (and Jon) Orwig of Ft. Madison, Iowa; nine grandchildren; five half-brothers, Norman (and Paulette) Gorsuch of Astoria, Gary (and Betty) Gorsuch of Sebring, Fla., Terry Gorsuch and Larry Gorsuch, both of Havana, and Bob Gorsuch of Canton; and one half-sister, Sandra Servis of Canton.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 25 years, retiring in 1979.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery with military rites conducted by Astoria American Legion Post #25.
