Alice Grafton Dies At Age 88

Alice Y. Butler Grafton, 88, formerly of Avon, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 1990, at Heartland Health Care Center of Canton where she was a resident.

She was born June 4, 1902, in Fulton County, a daughter of Leo and Belle (Sullivan) Yeoman. She married J. Dale Butler on June 25, 1927. He died in 1963. She later married Archie Grafton on Nov. 8, 1969. He died on June 16, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters.

Survivors include two brothers, Lionel “Bun” Yeoman of Boulder City, Nev., and John A. Yeoman of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Mahala Lafferty of rural Canton; and several nephews and nieces.

She attended Western Illinois University and taught school for many years. She later farmed with her husband in Warren County.

She was a member of Avon Federated Church.

Private services were held Thursday at Corman Memorial Home of Avon with Rev. David Gerth officiating. Burial was in Avon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church’s roof fund or to the American Cancer Society.

The Graftons were former area residents.
