Don “Nepper” Grissom Dies Unexpectedly

Don “Nepper” Grissom, 69, lifetime Astoria resident, was found dead Thursday evening in the rear of his barber shop where he lived. Bob Ames, constable, forced entry into the place after a number of persons reported they had tried to contact the barber during the day and were unable to find him. He is believed to have died about 4 a.m. Thursday.

Mr. Grissom was born March 6, 1892, at Astoria, to Edward and Nola (Clemens) Grissom. He was married on March 9, 1914 to Dorothy Craft, who resides in California. A son, Don Hubert Grissom of South San Francisco, Calif., survives, as well as several grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Shawgo Memorial Home with the Rev. D. Edwin Rodabaugh officiating. Burial was in the Woodland cemetery.

Deputy coroner Earl Coleman conducted an inquest at the funeral home Friday night and the coroner’s jury attributed death to a coronary occlusion. Those who served on the jury were Bernard Shawgo, foreman, Earl Nichols, Russell Walters, Willis Smith, Floyd Pottenger and Charles Bucy.
