Melvin FordMelvin E. Ford, 91, of Canton died at 9:10 a.m. Feb. 13, 2022, at the Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing of Canton, where he was a resident.

He was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Canton, a son of Joseph and Bertha Ford. He married Wanda Lee Wilson on Oct. 29, 1966, in Lewistown. She preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2020.

He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Surviving are six children, Chris Weihmeir of Springfield, Jeff (and Renee) Weihmeir of Chandler, Ariz., Greg (and Kelli) Ford, Debbi Ford and Eddie Ford, all of Canton, and Mary Elizabeth (and Lon) Fillingham of Jacksonville; and 16 grandchildren.

He was a retired coal miner. He had worked at Buckheart and Freeman United mines where he was a pit foreman.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War on the USS Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home.
