Charles France

Charles D. France, 88, of Ipava died at 1:53 p.m. April 1, 2011, at Havana Healthcare Center.

He was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Vermont, the son of Hardy and Lillie Mae Johnson Masters France. He married I. Rosalie Henkle on June 3, 1944, in Ipava. She preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2005.

Surviving are one son, Gary (and Sharon) France of Havana; two daughters, Sylvia (and Leon) Morris of Charlottesville, Va., and Phyllis (and Keith) Thomas of Florence, S.C.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Bradley Thomas; and three sisters, Ellen Schisler, Sarah Long and Virginia Lou Link.

He was a farmer. He also worked at Federal Mogul in Macomb and Tracer Industries in Havana.

He attended Ipava Christian Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Ray Greenfield officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Ipava Christian Church or Havana Healthcare Center.
