James EdwardsJames Hugh Edwards, 89, of Rushville died at 8:40 p.m. Sept. 9, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Pleasant View, a son of William G. and Oliva Menely Edwards. He married Norma Lou Acker on Oct. 4, 1953, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2014.

He also was preceded in death by one infant brother, Billy Edwards.

Surviving are three sons, Bill (and wife Lisa Dace) Edwards of Oakwood Hills, Mike Edwards of Rushville and Don (and wife Cathy Knott) Edwards of Volo; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was a life-long resident of Rushville, graduating from Rushville High School. He attended one year at Western Illinois University before joining the military. He served in the U.S. Navy for almost two years aboard the USS Massey during the Korean War. After returning home, he worked with his father at Edwards and Sons General Construction. After his father’s retirement he took over the business and built enumerable new homes in Rushville and the surrounding area.

He was a volunteer on the Scripps Park Board for over 18 years. He also was a long-time member of the men’s golf league.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Dan Wise officiating. Inurnment will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with military honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and U.S. Navy Honors Detail. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
