Howard EylerHoward R. Eyler, 84, of Rushville died at 2:19 p.m. March 18, 2010, at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.

He was born June 13, 1925, near Ponemah in Warren County, a son of John Lynn and Bertha Olivia Rexroth Eyler. He married Doris D. Vroman on Sept. 14, 1954, in Edington. She died March 17, 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Steve (and Christie) Eyler and David (and Brenda) Eyler, both of Rushville; two sisters, Mildred Hunter of Rushville and Elizabeth Schroeder of Monmouth; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge he attended the University of Illinois.

He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1942.

He worked for Gibb Motors in Reynolds, Dr. Walter McClelland DVM and Henderson Ford in Aledo. He then moved to Rushville to work with his sister and brother-in-law at Gibb Motors. He co-owned the International Harvester Dealership in Rushville and Mount Sterling. He worked for Tri-County Equipment, C and M International and retired from Fayhee Implement in 1993.

He was a member of Schuyler County Fair Board for 25 years; American Legion Post #4; Veterans of Foreign Wars; and charter member of Rushville Lions Club.

Services were held Sunday at Rushville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Akins officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
