FRANCES MARIE (MUMMERT) ELLIS

Frances Ellis

Frances Marie Ellis, 92, of Canton died at 11:58 p.m. Oct. 1, 2006, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Astoria, a daughter of William Henry and Nellie Mae Danner Mummert. She married Harold H. Ellis on April 10, 1937, in Astoria. He died July 5, 1988.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard D. Mummert and William Carroll Mummert; and one son, James Lewis Ellis.

Surviving are one daughter, Judith Ellis Mace of Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was in the Class of 1936 at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

As a member of Congregational Church in Canton, she served multiple terms in the council and in delegations to annual meetings. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at the time of her death.

She was a charter member of Daniel Webster Toastmasters Club and Lincoln-Douglas Toastmasters Club of Canton, Illinois and Canton Retired Teachers Associations, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Hospice Services of Canton.

She was a history teacher at Ingersoll Middle School in Canton for 35 years.

Services were held Oct. 4, 2006, at Murphy-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Paul Walles officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery Mausoleum.
