Vera L. Ellis, 83, of Canton, died at 7:01 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Marietta, a daughter of Sidner and Ruby Ford Orwig. She married Ernest B. Ellis on Aug. 11, 1937, in Lewistown. He died Sept. 20, 2000.
She also was preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are one son, Gary (and Cynthia) of Tremont; one daughter, Bonnie (and Charles) Harn of Canton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verda White of Peoria and Vivian Gilpin of Brereton.
She owned and operated a grocery store in Summum with her husband for 13 years. She and her husband then owned the Dairy Queen and Dairy Dream in Canton for 13 years, retiring in 1976.
She was an escort for the American Red Cross.
She also was a member of Canton Assembly of God Church.
Services were held Tuesday at Oaks Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Willis Wilson officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
