Mrs. Evans Dies; Worked For Retarded

Mrs. Beryl (Pat) Evans, 56, of 1701 S. Kneer, Peoria, who devoted many years to helping the mentally handicapped, died at Methodist Hospital at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. She was admitted Saturday morning.

She was a member and past president of the Lincoln Parents Association for Retarded Children Lincoln State School, a member of the Peoria Association for Retarded Children and was affiliated with Allied Agencies of Peoria.

Mrs. Evans was employed for eleven years at the Adams Street Super Market, last working in June. She was a member of Retail Clerks Local 536; a member of Peoria Area Hammond Organ Club and Skips No Stars Club. She was also a member of Howett Street Christian Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship of the church.

Born in Fulton County, July 20, 1914, she was the daughter of Barton and Chlora Davis Welker.

Surviving are one son, Donald Evans, and one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Grandy, both of Peoria; her mother, Mrs. Chlora Huff, Peoria; one brother, Don Welker, Ipava; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Zoe) Gunzenheiser, Peoria; two grandsons; a number of nieces and nephews; also grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane in 1940 and one son, Timothy, who died at Lincoln State School in 1969, her two brothers and two sisters.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Davison Funeral Home with Rev. L. Scott Huson officiating.
