LEAH ELLEN (WONDERLY) ENGLE

Leah Ellen Wonderly Engle

Mrs. Leah Ellen Wonderly Engle was born on the 25th day of March 1846 near Spring Hill, Virginia. She died August 10, 1910, being 63 years, 4 months, and 15 days of age. She was married to Mr. Joseph Engle, Mar. 26, 1862 and became the mother of 10 children and all are living excepting one. The living are namely: Mrs. Eliza Royer, Vermont, Ill.; William Engle, Industry, Ill.; Thomas Engle, Canton, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Grimm, Browning, Ill.; Mrs. Cassie Royer, Huntville, Ill.; Harvey Engle, Farmington, Washington; Mrs. Mary Carnahan, Chamaho, Neb.; David Engle, Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Laura Klinedinst, Astoria, Ill.

Mrs. Engle’s life has not been in vain. Her life has been one of devotion to family and friends. As a mother and wife she was true. Loving words, tender messages, and kind acts were given freely by her while she lived. She has been in feeble health for several years, but about midnight of August 9th, she was taken seriously ill and past away in the early hours of the 10th day of August.

She is gone and her loved ones mourn her departure. The husband, children and other relatives have the sincere sympathy of all who know them.

Hereafter we shall see the truth arise
Above the mists that gather cold and gray,
The rays of faith break through the pregnant east,
And awaiting for the sign shal know ’tis day.

Funeral services were held at the residence, August 11 at 2:00 o’clock p.m. with Rev. C. M. Wilson officiating minister. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
