ANDREW JACKSON ENGLE

Andrew Engle

Andrew Engle, who had been suffering from lockjaw for about two weeks, died on Saturday morning, Dec. 17, 1887, at about 9 o'clock, aged 53 years, 4 months, and 25 days. The deceased lived about seven miles east of Astoria. He was born in Astoria township, July 22, 1838, and was a son of Isaac and Cyntha (Powell) Engle. He was united in marriage with Miss Susan Mitchell, daughter of Jacob Mitchell, in 1852. Six children, who are yet living, was the result of this union, two of whom are married. Mr. Engle was a hard working, honest man, and a firm believer in Christ. At one time he was a member of the Christian church, but of late years had not been identified with that denomination. His wife, with her sorrowing children will greatly miss him, for his place on earth can never be filled.

“A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
Which never can be filled;
God in His wisdom has recalled
The throne His love has given,
And, though the body moulders alone,
His soul is safe in Heaven.”
