Paula Colleen DeWees, 77, of Astoria died at 4:35 p.m. Feb. 10, 2025, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born Aug. 12, 1947, in Canton, a daughter of George and Helen Bunch Tarvin. She married George DeWees in December of 1965. They later divorced.
Surviving are two sons, Andrew DeWees and Joshua (and Melinda) DeWees; one brother, Ted Tarvin; three grandchildren, Darian (and Dylan) Hull, Mikayla Howarter and Elena DeWees; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Tarvin; and one sister, Carol Palmer.
She was a member of Isabel Community Church. She taught school in Havana and Astoria, and retired from teaching in 2011.
A funeral service was held Saturday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with Rev. Shalom Renner officiating. Burial followed the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
Memorials may be made in Paula’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
