Evelyn Danner

Evelyn E. Danner, 94, of Macomb, formerly of Astoria, died at 8:40 p.m. July 17, 2023, at The Elms in Macomb.

She was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Astoria, a daughter of Hart and Iona Hetrick Danner.

Surviving are one sister, Helen Wise of Astoria; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Danner of Decatur; three nieces, Marsha Wise Colletta of Oakland, Ore, Kristen (and Brad) Bettencourt of Arnold, Md., and Carrie Wise of Astoria; and three nephews, Ed (and Kathryn) Wise of Worland, Wyo., Dan (and Robin) Wise of Bolingbrook and Scott A. Danner of Decatur.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Danner; and one brother, Victor Danner.

She served in the United States Air Force from 1953-56.

She was a 1946 graduate of Astoria High School. After high school, she graduated from Quincy Beauty Academy in 1947. She ran Evelyn’s Beauty Shop in Astoria from 1947-53. After her service in the Air Force, she reopened her shop in 1956 and was in business until 2017.

She was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star #223, where she served as Treasurer for several years. She also was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Astoria Cemetery with Reverend Bob Greene officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post#25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
