He was born May 26, 1928, in Ipava, a son of Leonard and Nellie Cleer Derry. He married Doris Lalicker on Aug. 14, 1949, in Ipava. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John (and Jane) Derry of Brea, Calif., James (and Sandy) Derry of Bloomington and Mark (and Cindy) Derry of Lisle; one daughter, Joann (and Tom) Prunty of Glen Ellyn; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Albert Derry.
He was a payroll clerk and purchasing agent for Peabody Coal, ASARCO coal companies and LTD Industries in Lewistown. He later worked for Wal-Mart in Macomb, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Berean Christian Church in Ipava, Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb and Eastview Christian Church in Bloomington.
Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Brad Prunty and Brian Prunty officiating. Cremation rites were accorded following the service. Burial will be held in Ipava Cemetery at a later date.
