He was born June 15, 1941, in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County, a son of Clifford and Beulah Chipman Downs. He married Rebecca J. Shaw on July 1, 1966, in Rushville. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Chad (and Amy) Downs; one daughter, Leah (and Bruce) Wilson; one sister, Marjorie Downs Byers of Glen Arm, Md.; one brother, Dwayne Downs of Rushville; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Molly Beth Wilson; three sisters, Esther Downs, Laura Virginia Gieker and Maggie Burnside; and three brothers, John Harlan, Richard and Gary Downs.
He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1959.
He laid flooring for 42 years before working for Hickory Kerton Water Co-op.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Rushville City Cemetery with Mr. David Haney officiating. Inurnment will follow the services. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville.
