Eldon Darling

Eldon D. Darling, 73, of rural Edelstein, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1996, at his residence.

He was born March 12, 1923, in Marbletown, a son of Adam and Stella Cluney Darling. He married Anna Jean Smith on Aug. 27, 1945, in Princeville. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Joyce Conrad of Princeville; one son, Dale Darling of Princeville; three brothers, Ernest Darling of Clinton, Ark., Loren Darling of Indianapolis, Inc., and Darrell “Bud” Cluney of Astoria; three sisters, Flossie Flowers of Havana, Gertrude Lancaster of Delavan and Wanda Anderson of Peoria; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

One son, Don Mathew, two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

He farmed in the Princeville area for many years. He also worked as a truck driver. He later was a member of Operating Engineers Local 649, working for Sommerville Illinois Pipeline Contractors of Peoria, Spurgeon Construction Co. of Washington and several other local contractors. He retired in 1988. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Princeville. He also was a member of the Flemish American Club of Kewanee.

Funeral services were held Saturday at his church with Rev. Brian Rejsek officiating. Burial was in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery.

Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Akron/Princeville Ambulance Fund, to Akron/Princeville Fire Department or to Saint Francis Medical Center Hospice Program in Peoria.
