VeteranPfc. Roscoe Danner, First Astoria Boy Killed In Action In Korea

Official Notice Reach Parents Friday; Date Of Death July 8

Our city was saddened Friday afternoon when a telegram was received by Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Danner that their son, Pfc. Roscoe E. Danner had been killed in Korea. It was a great shock to his parents and his wife, who at present is making her home with her parents in Kilbourne.

Pfc. Danner left Chicago on Jan. 5, 1951 for Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. On May 4th while at home on a furlough he was united in marriage to Miss Darlene McCaully of Kilbourne. On May 12th he arrived in California. No record of the time he landed in Korea. However, he wrote several letters home. He was with a machine gun crew.

The telegram stated: “We regret to inform you that your son, Roscoe Danner, was killed in action in Korea on July 8, 1951. Letter will follow.”

Roscoe Danner was born in Astoria July 14, 1928, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Danner. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife and the following sisters: Mrs. Verna Mae Farwell, Astoria, Laura, Lola Geane and Connie Danner, all at home.
