She was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Tecumseh, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Julia Stephens McKinney. She married Wilbur Carlton in November of 1951.
Surviving are two daughters, Julie Pickel of San Antonio, Texas, and Lynn Ann Carlton of Gainesville, Ga.; two granddaughters, Jessica Marie (and Jose) Rivera of Fla., and Kira (and Russell) Owen of San Antonio, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Lynn Carlton; and one brother, Charles Dwayne McKinney.
She graduated from Normal College. She was a music teacher in the Astoria School District. She taught grade school and junior high music. At the high school level she taught choir and stage band.
She was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church where she served on numerous boards. She also was a member of the Eastern Star.
A service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Robert Greene officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
