She was born Feb. 15, 1960, in Macomb, a daughter of Cecil and Nancy Little Heitz. She married Robert L. Coats on Aug. 15, 1986, in Macomb. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kylie Coats of Macomb; her mother; two sisters, Rebecca (and Monte) Crossman of Astoria and Susie (and Scotty) Parr of Vermont; one brother, Chris (and Kelly) Heitz of Vermont; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father; her maternal grandparents, Roman and Lulu Little; and her paternal grandparents, Roy and Vernie Heitz.
She was a 1978 graduate of VIT High School. In 1979, she earned a Certificate of Accountancy from Robert Morris College. She went on to work at Western Illinois University for 35 years. During her employment she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree, graduating from Western Illinois University in 2002. She retired in December, 2018, from her position as the Central Stores Manager in the Physical Plant. She also served as the Financial Secretary for Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member.
Graveside services were held Friday at Vermont Cemetery with Rev. Mike Burdick officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
Per the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
