Martin Claassen Jr.Martin Claassen Jr., 73, of Rushville died at 1 p.m. Oct. 7, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 22, 1939, in Woodstock Twp. Schuyler County, a son of Martin Dierk "Bill" and Bertha Shirley Claassen. He married Sandra Lee Sayrs and was later divorced.

Surviving are his long time companion, Mary Lou Malcomson of Frederick; one son, Donnie (and Melissa) Claassen of Niota; one daughter, Donna Claassen and Don Wilkerson of Mount Sterling; two sisters, Opal (and Bill) Richter of Lewistown and Elizabeth "Liz" (and Dick) Etter of Rushville; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Lance and Levi Burnett-Claassen; two sisters, Shirley Leverton and Dorothy Lee Reeder; and three brothers, George W. Claassen, N. Dean Claassen and James D. Claassen.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He worked at King Seeley in Macomb, Rowland and Sons in Rushville and farmed for Leverton Brothers. He last worked for City of Rushville as the director of Public Works, retiring as the City Cemetery Sexton in 2002.

He was a member of Schuyler County Fair Board, Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 and Rushville Moose Lodge #506. He was a member and past commander for Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and Voiture #1100 40 et 8.

Graveside services were held Friday at Rushville City Cemetery with Rev. Fred Fritz officiating. Inurnment with military honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U. S. Army Honor Detail were held. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
