EDWARD CRNKOVICH

VeteranEdward Crnkovich

Edward Crnkovich, 96, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Peoria, died at 6:45 p.m. July 2, 2007, at Stuart-Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast.

He was born Sept. 29, 1910, in St. David, a son of Tony and Veronica Marintz Crnkovich. He married Lena Thompson on June 30, 1959, in Salinas, Ark. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Janet Ballard of Peoria; and one son, Alvin Garren of Palm Coast.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pava and Tony; and two sisters, Mary and Veronica.

He served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in Belgium in 1945 and awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a coal miner, working in Canton area mines for 43 years.

He was a member of VFW.

Graveside services were held Tuesday in Summum Cemetery with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
