O'Dell ConnellO’Dell C. Connell, 82, of Ipava died at 10:30 a.m. May 10, 2007, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

He was born June 15, 1924, in Heidenheimer, Texas, a son of Olan and Abbie Green Connell. He married Louise Tyler on Nov. 16, 1942, in Rogers, Texas. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Carole (and Don) Derry of Ipava; one son, John of Marion; three sisters, Lucille Murphy, Mildred McQueen and Tate Fipps, all of Temple, Texas; one brother, Lavoy (and Libby) of Temple; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Connell; one brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Geraldine Dukatnik and Earlene Jones.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1970.

He worked as a manager for South Texas Tire Test Fleet in Divine, Texas, where he was elected constable, and worked as chief of police in Astoria from 1975 to 1976.

He was a member of Lewistown Church of the Nazarene where he received a distinguished service award for 56 years of service. He was a member of Ipava American Legion Post #17.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery with military rites accorded by his legion post. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.
