C. Wayne Copes, 84, of Vermont died at 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Eldorado Township, McDonough County, a son of Clint and Nettie Schroder Copes. He married Ruth Wilson on May 3, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joy (and Lindell) Beck of Colchester and Naomi Copes of Kankakee; one son, Todd of Vermont; three grandchildren; and one brother, Wendell of Rushville.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran.

He farmed in Eldorado Township, retiring in 1997. He also worked for King-Sealy in Macomb for 25 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Macomb Church of the Nazarene.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Rev. Larry Abbott officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb was in charge of arrangements.
