Elizabeth J. Callans, 83, of Springfield, died at 2:42 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at St. John's Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1918, in Astoria, the daughter of Joseph E. and Lola Redshaw Callans in Astoria.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter Joseph Howard; one brother Paul J. Callans; and one aunt, Flora Redshaw.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was a graduate of Astoria High School and was the valedictorian of the class of 1936. She attended Gem City Business College from 1936-1937. She was employed by Booth and Thomas Inc. as corporate secretary and accounting manager.
Services were held Thursday at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Peter Harman officiating. Burial was in St. Mark's Cemetery in Winchester.
