Virgil Cremeens

Virgil E. Cremeens, 85, of Hopedale, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at his residence.

He was born March 17, 1912, in Hamilton County, a son of Felix and Myrtle Sexton Cremeens. He married Ruth Hymbaugh on Dec. 21, 1935, in Emden. She died Oct. 31, 1981. He married Anna Jones on Aug. 15, 1982, in Hopedale. She died May 3, 1995. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Keith Cremeens of Hopedale; three daughters, Jean Cremeens of Springfield, Nancy Hinman of Astoria and Sharon Owen of Stanford; two brothers, Francis Cremeens of Hopedale and Perry Cremeens of Delavan; three sisters, Velma Juhl and Dorothy Bradford, both of Hopedale, and Bertha Connell of Delavan; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He farmed in the Hopedale area until 1958. He then worked for R.A. Cullinan & Sons Inc. for many years. He retired from Roth Grain Co. in Morton in 1976. He was a member of Hopedale Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder for many years.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Rev. Michael Fender officiating. Burial was in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorials may be made to his church or to Methodist Medical Center Hospice Program in Peoria.
