Mrs. Verna Corbitt Dies Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Lee Corbitt, 73, of Vermont, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Shawgo Funeral Home in Astoria with Rev. Fines Main officiating, assisted by Rev. D. Arnold Naff. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Mrs. Corbitt died early Thursday morning at the Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.

She was a lifetime resident of the Vermont and Astoria areas.

She was born Aug. 16, 1896, near Astoria, the daughter of Henry and Carrie Russom Carter. She married Harvey Corbitt at Springfield, June 20, 1918. He died in May 1953.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Vermont.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Haney, and a son, Phil Corbett, both of Vermont; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Keith Danner of Astoria and two brothers, Rutherford Carter of Copenhagen, Denmark and Emmer Carter of Bowling Green, Ind. A son, Bernard, is deceased.
