LEROY CLANIN

Death of LeRoy Clanin

LeRoy Clanin, eldest of the six children of Perry and Delilah Hellyer Clanin was born June 19, 1869. Of the six, two remain, Mrs. Ella Graham and Gib Clanin, both of Ipava; one sister and two brothers are deceased.

Mr. Clanin was united in marriage to Nancy Bohannon Feb. 18, 1891. To this union four children were born, Jessie, Ethel, Maurine and Clair.

Mr. and Mrs. Clanin spent the first seven years of this married life on a farm in Bernadotte township. In 1898 they moved to the farm in Pleasant township, purchased from Mr. Clanin’s grandfather. Here they remained 45 years. In 1943 they moved from the farm into Ipava.

From a boy Mr. Clanin was identified with farm life. The farm life which he experienced was of the pioneer type. He knew the feel of the falling trees as the ax and the saw did their work. His muscles experienced the effort of the grubbing of the stump. When the field was finally cleared he sowed seed in the virgin soil. America owes much to him and his type, for her present prosperity. Another characteristic was his identification with his family, and by his family is meant his parents, brothers, sisters, together with his own wife and children. He loved their presence in his home. As he faced death, one of his deep concerns was the breaking of those family ties.

As he passed to his reward he leaves the widow, the three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Fayhee, Astoria; Mrs. Ethel Walters, Lewistown; Mrs. Maurine Fayhee, Prairie City, and Clair Clanin, Astoria. Besides the immediate family there are six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Numerous friends and neighbors extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

After an extended illness, Mr. Clanin passed away Saturday, Sept. 16.

Memorial services were conducted from the Ipava Presbyterian church Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., with the pastor, O. D. Slater in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Marjorie Snedeker at the organ, and Mrs. Grace Fayee soloist.

Pallbearers were Donald Fayhee, Doyle Fayhee, Paul Fayhee, Edward Gamm, Walter Royland and Arnold Coultas. Flower carriers were Eloise Coultas, Mary Rowland, Ginerva Gamm, Bernice Fayhee, Grace Fayhee and Betty Fayhee. Interment was in Ipava cemetery.
