He was born May 23, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Mary Feight Buckalew. He married Edith Mathis Meyer on Aug. 1, 1992, in Browning. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, James Buckalew of Chariton, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Stephania (and Brad) Murrell of Browning and Lacey (and Mike Ewing) Meyer of Rushville; one stepson, Jason Meyer of Browning; three sisters, Diane (and Kim Johnson) Buckalew of Chariton, Iowa, Debbie (and Brian) McClaran of Leon, Iowa, and Teresa (companion Dale) Buckalew of Williamson, Iowa; two brothers, Doyle Buckalew of Williamson, Iowa, and Carroll Buckalew of Iowa; one grandchild; five step grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Buckalew; two stepsons, Shawn and J.R. Meyer; and grandparents, Stanley and Mary Feight, who raised him as their own son.
He attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and was a school teacher for four years. He joined BNSF Railroad as a locomotive engineer and was employed there for 36 years before retiring. He attended Browning Methodist Church.
Cremation has been accorded. A graveside memorial service will be held at Oxford Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa, at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
