Wayne BattertonWayne L. Batterton, 79, of Astoria died at 2:12 a.m. Jan. 3, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born July 24, 1936, in Bernadotte, a son of Cecil W. and Evelyn G. Watson Batterton. He married Roberta J. Horwedel on July 16, 1955, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Randy (and Mary) Batterton of Mount Carmel; one daughter, Cindy (and Logan) McClain of Table Grove; one sister, Mary Lou Isbell of Canton; three brothers, Jerry (and Joyce) Batterton of Canton, Bob (and Joyce) Batterton of Farmington and Kenny (and Judy) Batterton of Harlingen, Texas; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He worked for Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria for 10 years. He then worked for International Harvester in Canton and Navistar in Urbana, Ohio, for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.

He was an active member at Isaac Walton League, serving as president for six years. He was a member of the Good Sam Club for a number of years; the Eagle’s Club in Mount Carmel; and the Ipava American Legion Sons of the American Legion.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
