Jack Bair

Jack BairJack Bair, 85, of Astoria died at 1:42 p.m. May 27, 2015, at Grand Prairie in Macomb.

He was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Canton, a son of Carl and Mina Leonard Bair. He married Grace Conner on Dec. 15, 1950, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Marty Bair of Astoria; one sister, Betty (and Russell) Platt of West Peoria; one brother, Donald (and Carolyn) Bair of Vermont; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Royer.

He worked for the railroad in Astoria and International Harvester in Canton. He was owner and operator of the Bair and Butler 66 gas station in Astoria. He then worked with Willis France at the France Insurance Agency in Astoria. He then became owner and operator of the Bair Insurance Agency in Astoria. He also farmed.

He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as church treasurer for many years; 25-year member of the Astoria Fire Department; a Shriner and a Shriner Circus Daddy for the last 10 years; Vermont Masonic Lodge; vice president of the Lewistown Mutual Insurance Company for many years; and the Astoria Lions Club, where he was a past president.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Bob Greene officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
