Leland BishopLeland “Doc” Bishop, 87, of Kirkwood, formerly of Canton and Lewistown, died at 11:20 a.m. March 11, 2011, in Galesburg.

He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Bluff City, a son of Jesse and Lena Kohlenberger Bishop. He married Ruby Hopkins on June 21, 1947, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Charles) Michael of Monmouth; two sons, Andy (and Kay) Bishop of DuQuoin and Gary (and Sueanne) Bishop of Ash Grove, Mo.; three brothers; five sisters; three grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

He worked for CIPS as a lineman and retired in 1979 after 30 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate 3/C during World War II.

He was a member of Canton American Legion and Canton Morning Star Lodge 734.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pam Moore officiating. Burial was in Maryville Cemetery in Bryant. Military services will be conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Post 1.
