Neva BaughmanNeva Irene Smith Baughman, 90, of Lewistown died at 3:10 a.m. May 11, 2009, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Table Grove, a daughter of Holli O. and Addie Chenowith Smith. She married Herbert W. Baughman on Jan. 25, 1937. He died in August, 1985.

She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one son, George Baughman of Lewistown; one brother, Robert Smith of Macomb; first cousin, Mrs. Elsie Smith Abernathy Clapp of Table Grove; five nephews; and four nieces.

She and her husband operated a Producers Cream Station in Lewistown and then farmed for over 40 years.

She clerked at Wherley Grocery and in the office of Raby Manufacturing.

She was a resident of rural Table Grove and Vermont before moving back to Lewistown in 1993.

Besides being a tractor driver on the farm, she was a Home Extension member for 60 years in Table Grove, Eldorado Township and Industry. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years.

She attended Table Grove Community Church, and was a member of West Prairie Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and song leader for many years. Then she attended Vermont Methodist Church and is a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church and Dorcas Circle.

She was previously a member of Vermont American Legion Auxiliary and is a member of Lewistown American Legion Auxiliary.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Kathy Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton.

Memorials may be made to West Prairie Presbyterian Church, Vermont Methodist Church, Lewistown Presbyterian Church or Lewistown Mount Pleasant Church.
