George Brown

George BrownGeorge W. Brown, 71, of Cuba died at 3:21 a.m. Sept. 25, 2008, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Isabel Township, Fulton County, a son of James F. and Virginia R. Stanley Brown.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Brown of Cuba and Mark Brown of Smyrna, Tenn.; two daughters, Tammy (and Gary) Mowell of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Sarah (and Nick) Abdullah of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Dean (and Sandy) Brown of Hanna City; one sister, Cindy (and John) Tarvin of Goreville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

He was a farmer, and also had worked at International Harvester and Caterpillar Inc., and was a truck and motorcoach driver.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown and Cuba Lions Club. He served as Cuba mayor, former Cuba City Alderman and served as Putman Township road commissioner.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Amy Wharton officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
