Eugene BaveryEugene Max Bavery, 83, of Lewistown died at 10:30 a.m. July 29, 2008, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

He was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Basco, a son of Frank and Clara Ancelet Bavery. He married Mary Anabel Heisler on Oct. 16, 1947, in West Point. She died April 16, 2007.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Theresa; one son, Robert; three brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan (and Steven) Harden of Jacksonville and Mary Jo (and David) Kumer of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Charles Bavery of Jacksonville and Jeffrey Bavery of Lewistown; and four grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 348th Station Hospital, and was a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1.

He was the owner of Bavery’s Restaurant in Lewistown for 37 1/2 years before retiring.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewistown, and was a volunteer fireman for Lewistown Fire Department for over 30 years.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Calvary Cemetery in Carthage with Monsignor Robert O’Connor officiating. Military rites were conducted by Carthage VFW and American Legion posts. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown was in charge of arrangements.
