Junior BrooksJunior M. Brooks, 81, of Lewistown died at 10:37 a.m. April 7, 2008, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Lewistown, a son of George and Gladys Maranville Brooks. He married Norma Eaton on Dec. 31, 1951, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dale (and Deanna) Brooks of Canton; one daughter, Gail (and Tom) Berry of Lewistown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He was a World War II veteran serving on the USS Melvin.

He was a retired Corporal with the Illinois State Police, retiring in December of 1984. He later served as chief of police for the city of Lewistown for three years.

He was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church, Illinois Troopers Lodge #41, Lewistown Lodge #104 AF and AM, Retired State Police Association, Lewistown VFW Post 5001, Fulton County Civil Defense and was an associate guardian of Job’s Daughters.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at his church with Rev. Bill Bunnage officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1.
