Avon Byers

Avon Russell “Jim” Byers, 87, of Lewistown died at 12:45 p.m. April 1, 2007, at his home.

He was born June 27, 1919, in Edgewood, a son of Harve and Gertrude Pemberton Byers. He married Frances Surratt on Sept. 2, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Avon L. “Bud” (and Dee) of Clinton; two daughters, Faye (and Robert) Huneke of Lincoln and Crystal Byers of Chillicothe; one brother, Bernard (and Virgie) Byers of Effingham; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Spratt; five brothers; and five sisters.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Cuba Assembly of God Church. He has served in the Civil Conservation Corps.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at his church with Rev. Andy Fyffe, Rev. Jerry Spratt and Rev. Joel Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown.
