Gale Brooks

Gale L. Brooks, 77, of Smithfield died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Prairie City Health Care Center in Prairie City.

He was born June 12, 1926, in Stover, Mo., a son of Milton Sr. and Nora Boyer Brooks. He married Audrey Edsal on July 18, 1954, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Larry (and Margie) of Smithfield; two daughters, Janice (and Tony) Birchfield of Cuba and Kathy Brooks of Smithfield; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Milton Jr. of Reliance, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

He farmed in the Smithfield area for many years, and owned and operated Brooks Spoon River Hunting Reserve. He also was a substitute bus driver for Cuba School District for several years.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

There will be no services. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Cremation will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to Prairie City Health Care Center or Cass-Putman Rescue Squad.
