Gregory C. Brooks, 40, of Canton died at 2:02 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Jan. 30, 1963, in Macomb, a son of Charlotte Bryan. He married Candi Hart on Nov. 18, 1989, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jarod at home; one daughter, Kember Brooks at home; three brothers, Richard (and Neva) Howarter of Cuba, Gary (and Doris) Howarter of Canton and Virgil Howarter of Canton; eight sisters, Jo Ellen (and Brian) Fisher of Mendota, Vickie Young of Canton, Cindy (and Harvey) Riggins of Havana, Debra (and Mike) Duckwiler of Summum, Pam (and Larry) Tippey of Lewistown, Deloris Thrasher of Little America, Cora Lee (and Mike) Teague of Mobile, Ala., and Nancy Foster of Cuba.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents; one sister, and Virgil and Cora Howarter, who raised him.

He was a Marine Corps veteran.

He worked for Maytag Corp. in Galesburg for 14 years, first working as a painter and later as a forklift operator.

He was active in demolition derbies and tractor pulling.

He was a member of Graceland Covenant Community Church in Havana.

Services were held Saturday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
