Harvey Bubb Sr.

Harvey S. Bubb Sr., 95, of Astoria, died at 9:04 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at the Astoria Healthcare Center.

He was born Aug. 11, 1903, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a son of Jesse E. and Sarah Bucher Bubb. He married Verna Mae Horton on Sept. 15, 1923, in Astoria. She died Aug. 14, 1983. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, three sisters, one brother and his parents.

Surviving are four daughters, Margery M. McMullen of Ipava, Helen Wright of Williamsville, Marilyn “Peg” Danner of Astoria and Shirley Mae Smith of White Hall; one son, Harvey Bubb Jr. of Bethany, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Bubb of St. Joe, Mich. and Eldon Bubb of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one sister, Flora Anderson of Chula Vista, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a school teacher starting in the Possum Hollow School. In the early 1920s while teaching, he also worked at Bubb Produce in Astoria. He worked as a superintendent for the Post Engineer at Camp Ellis in 1942. After retiring from teaching, he took a job with Rouland Trucking in Jacksonville as a bookkeeper. He wrote articles known as the “Possum Hollow Nostalgia” that appeared in the Astoria Argus Searchlight. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Gary Schultz officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Healthcare Center or the Astoria Rescue Squad.
