MARY K. (FOSTER) BAXTER

Mary Baxter

Mary K. Baxter, 83, of Perry, formerly of Astoria, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.

She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Don and Mattie Matson Foster. She married J.B. Baxter on May 25, 1938, in Lewistown. He died July 6, 1985. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Staub, and one brother.

Surviving are one granddaughter, Mrs. Benito (Annette Elizabeth) Salas, and one great-granddaughter, Maria A. Salas, both of Topeka, Kan.

A school teacher, she retired from Perry High School in 1974. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Presbyterian Guild of Perry, Perry Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pike County Home Extension Unit and Abbi A. Hatch Chautauqua Circle of Perry.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Bob Schoolcraft officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
