VeteranPaul C. Brubeck Of Astoria Dies

Paul BrubeckPaul C. Brubeck, 72, of Astoria died at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 1990 at Astoria Healthcare Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Normal, a son of John A. and Edna Kinsey Brubeck. He married Betty L. Jones on Aug. 31, 1941, in Urbana. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Susan) Lau of Morton and Mrs. Robert (Sally) Heier of Fort Meyers, Fla., and five grandchildren.

Mr. Brubeck was a graduate of Lincoln Junior College and Western Illinois University. He was a teacher at Astoria Junior High School, retiring in 1986.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a member of the Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Mr. Brubeck at one time served as Sales Manager for Mummert Seed Co. and Gordon Metal Products in Astoria.

He was well-known for his part in the Astoria Homecoming during the past years where he so ably served as Emcee during the parade and program adding his personal touch of stories and anecdotes of those passing the review stand. He also served as anouncer for the Annual Junior-Senior Prom for many years, also adding his “ad-lib” remarks about the couples.

A talented public speaker, he was called on by many groups, organizations and churches to bring messages which were always well received by any age audience.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Jim Comstock officiating. Burial was held in Astoria Cemetery with military rites by the Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to the Paul Brubeck Scholarship Fund in care of the Farmers State Bank and Trust Co. in Astoria.
