John H. Benton An Aged Resident Passed Away

John H. Benton, an aged citizen died at his home in this city following an illness of a long duration. Death was due to stomach trouble and complications. He was aged 73 years, 3 months and 24 days.

The deceased was born in Browning township, Schuyler county, Illinois, June 28, 1849. He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Bair of Astoria, December 24th, 1874, and had the deceased lived until Sunday, December 24th, they would have celebrated their forty-eighth wedding anniversary.

There was born to this union five children, namely: Charles H., George H. and William E. of Astoria, Mrs. Anna Camp of Ray and Cora Bell deceased, who, with the aged mother and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, survive to mourn his death. He is also survived by one brother, G. W. Benton of Snicarte, Ill.

The deceased was converted to the christian faith over thirty years ago and has since lived a faithful conscientious life.

The funeral services were held in the United Brethren church Monday at 10:00 o'clock a.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ella Niswonger. Interment in the Salem cemetery.
