Aged Citizen Dies

David E. Brehm, an aged and highly respected citizen died at his home in this city Saturday, following an illness of several weeks duration. Death was due to advanced age and complications following influenza.

Mr. Brehm was born in Dauphin county, Pa., May 4th, 1834, being at the time of his death, aged 85 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was married to Miss Nancy Shope of the same state and county, who died ten years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Brehm came to Illinois and located in Astoria in April 1885. To them were born fourteen children, two of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Emma Painter of Sheldons Grove, and J. A. Brehm, of Peoria. Also 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

His daughter, Miss Bertha, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 22, at the family home, from pneumonia following influenza and Mr. Brehm, who had been quite ill previous to her death, seemed to weaken perceptibly from that time until he too was called home.

The deceased was a member of the Church of the Brethren for 61 years. He was a good citizen and had many friends who regret to learn of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren at 2 o’clock Monday, conducted by Revs. A. H. Lind and C. A. Gruber. Interment in the South Fulton cemetery.
